I do love you. clearly you don’t love you as much as I do, otherwise you’d put that shirt on and dance with me.
Brittany’s love for Santana is just astonishing, really. devastating if you think about it long enough. Here is this seventeen year old girl who has been in love with her best friend for years and the whole time her best friend has been sending her these signals that say ‘I love you’ with her body and in private and in the quietest purest moments where it really counts but then saying with her words that what they do together doesn’t matter even though Brittany knows that it does — even though Brittany knows that it matters more than anything. Brittany can’t imagine a life without Santana because Santana is her best friend but at the same time Santana keeps breaking her heart — slowly and a little bit at a time. the hard part is that she always puts it back together afterwards though, awkwardly and with a lot of tape.
she always makes Brittany fall more in love with her instead of less. every day it gets just a little bit harder for Brittany to believe Santana’s words then even though this hurts so much. but then one day Santana starts to say different words. and yeah, it still hurts a lot but Brittany can’t help it: she starts to hope. the best friend who she’s so in love with loves her back. so when Santana says that she doesn’t think Brittany loves her Brittany can’t actually believe it.
of course Brittany loves Santana, she’s loved Santana all along. she loved Santana even when Santana broke her heart. she loved Santana when Santana didn’t love herself. she loved Santana when Santana pretended not to love her. she’ll always love Santana. Brittany’s love is patient. Brittany’s love is true. she loves Santana so much that she just wants Santana to love herself and be happy. it’s a quiet love and one that doesn’t get talked about but it’s really actually remarkable. Brittany’s love for Santana is the steadiest most unfailing and purest thing on Glee.
